This child is actually the son of his Henry's brother James Edward and wife Jessie who was christened Alfred Edgar in 1884. Sometime between his birth and 1891 he starts living with Henry and in all census and on his marriage certificate refers to Henry as his Father.

No official adoption papers have been found but this transfer of parentage may never have been made legal.

Albert is living with the family in 1881 but for some reason decides to join the Navy. No other member of the family has any association with the services and Birmingham is not exactly close to the coast. His Naval Record does means that we are able to build up an accurate picture  of Albert.
1884 Joins the Navy at Portsmouth
His Naval record tells us that he is 5'2" with Brown hair.He has Hazel eyes and a fresh complextion. He signs on for 10yrs service. His first ship is the RMS Impregnable but he also serves on the Victory 1, Excellent, Ganges and Benbow

He signs up for a further 10 yrs service in 1894 and his record now tells us that he has grown to 5'6". His hair is now described as Auburn. His character is always recorded as 'very good' throught his service
1901-1905 Coastguard in Dublin Area. S.Ireland

1901  He is stationed at Howth and is living there with his wife and 2 daughters, Beatrice and Winifred. His religion is stated as Presbyterian which follows in the family tradition. He later moves to other stations such as Kingstown( now Dun Laorhire) and Wicklow, He is pensioned out in 1905 and probably returns to England.

1914 Joins Royal Naval Reserves at start of WW1. Remains in service until December of that year.
1935 Emily dies in Rann Street, Ladywood. In her will she leaves over £631-6s-8d to her husband. His ocupation at this time is shown as Wire Splicer,
1941
Albert dies in Arbroath, Scotland where he was on holiday with his neice Daisy Neale.
In his will he leaves £443-4s-2d to an Arthur Edward Wright, Newsagent and Harry Edward Bevy, Ironmonger. Unusually it would appear noen goes to his daughters or their families. It is not known what connection these men had with Albert. Maybe he just had large debts to settle!
