FREDERICK and PAULINE HOGG

FREDERICK WILLIAM

Born 1922
1948 Married Pauline Hogg

Young Freddy about 8yrs old

Frederick William was the youngest of 8 children born to James and Minnie. There was 17 years between him and his eldest brother Wilfred.
Growing up most of his siblings would have left home to start families of their own. Fred remained at home with his two youngest sisters Olive and Margery. His mother died when he was
18.

Family on holiday at Deganwy, North Wales. (L-R James, Fred, Olive, Friend, Margery, Miriam, Minnie)

Fred went to Cape Hill Primary School in Smethwick and then to Waterloo Raod Senior School. He left school at 14 and started working for F & C Osler and Co a Lighting and Chadilier company in Broad Street Birmingham. The rest of his family worked for Nettlefolds Iron Works so it is surprising that Frederick did not join them.

The family were all members of the Salvation Army but for some reason Fred and his two sisters Marge and Olive decided to try somewhere different and probably with the attraction of a Youth Club started to attend Cape Hill Methodist Church, Dudley Road, Smethwick.
This was also the church attended by Pauline Hogg and was the place where they would both meet.
